They are part of the withdrawn Indian Rupee banknotes series. The Reserve Bank of India started issuing these 500 Indian Rupee banknotes in 1987. They were withdrawn from circulation in 1996.
This old style 500 rupees banknote has the portrait of Indian independence leader Mahatma Gandhi. On the back of the five hundred rupees note are Gandhi and his followers walking.
