Step back into late-20th-century Indian numismatics with this classic Reserve Bank of India 2 Rupees banknote. Issued during the Republic of India era, this charming paper currency features the iconic portrait of the majestic Bengal tiger standing proudly in tall grass on the reverse, a beloved design among paper money enthusiasts. On the face, it proudly displays the revered Lion Capital of Ashoka and carries the authoritative signature of R. N. Malhotra, who served as RBI Governor between 1985 and 1990. Measuring approximately 98 by 58 mm and printed in distinct shades of maroon and grey, this piece captures a nostalgic era of Indian monetary history before the denomination was phased out of circulation. Graded in Fine condition, it displays authentic signs of circulation, including characteristic centre and corner folds with gentle edge wear, yet remains intact without tears or missing paper. For collectors building a comprehensive type set of Republic India issues or thematic animal currency, acquiring a genuine Malhotra-signed tiger note is an essential milestone that anchors any serious collection.
