This is a rare postal stamp from Portuguese India, a historically significant colonial possession that was eventually annexed by India in 1961. The stamp features the "Assistencia Publica" (Public Assistance) design and has been overprinted by the Government of India (GOI) with a denomination of 7 New Paise in brown coloring. The overprinting represents a crucial transitional period in Indian postal history, marking the integration of Portuguese Indian postal services into the Indian postal system. This particular specimen is in UNC (Uncirculated/Mint Unused) condition, meaning it has never been used for postal purposes and retains its original pristine appearance without any postmarks, creases, or wear. For philatelists and collectors of Indian postal history, this stamp holds considerable value as a piece of numismatic and historical documentation. The combination of Portuguese colonial heritage and Indian governmental overprinting makes it a unique crossover collectible. Such stamps are increasingly difficult to find in mint condition, especially those from this specific overprint series. This piece represents an excellent investment for serious collectors interested in Commonwealth postal artifacts and Indian independence-era memorabilia.
