This is an exceptionally rare postal stamp from Portuguese India, featuring the Assistência Pública (Public Assistance) series overprinted with the 7 New Paise denomination by the Government of India. This significant philatelic piece represents a crucial transitional period in Indian postal history, issued following India's integration of the former Portuguese territories in 1961. The stamp showcases beautiful brown coloring and bears the characteristic overprint that marks its official status as a Government of India issue. In pristine Uncirculated (UNC) condition, this mint unused stamp remains in its original state with no signs of wear, handling, or postal use—a remarkable achievement for a stamp from this era. The Assistência Pública series is highly sought after by serious stamp collectors due to its historical significance and limited circulation. This particular specimen represents an important bridge between Portuguese colonial postal traditions and Indian postal administration, making it an invaluable addition to any collection focused on Indian philately, Portuguese colonial history, or transitional postal artifacts. The stamp's rarity, combined with its exceptional condition and historical context, makes it a compelling investment piece for numismatists and history enthusiasts alike. --- #
