This China 1 Jiao note from 1980 represents a fascinating piece of numismatic history from the People's Republic of China. Issued by the People's Bank of China and released into circulation on September 22, 1988, this standard banknote denomination (0.1 CNY) showcases the currency design of the late 20th century. Measuring 115 × 52 mm, this rectangular paper note exemplifies the printing quality of Chinese currency during the post-Mao era, a period of significant economic reform and modernization in China. What makes this particular specimen highly collectible is its GEM UNC (Gem Uncirculated) condition—an exceptional grade indicating pristine preservation with virtually no signs of handling or wear. Each buyer receives a different serial number, adding individual character to their acquisition. The 1980 series Jiao notes have become increasingly sought-after by international collectors and Chinese numismatics enthusiasts as the original circulation examples continue to disappear from circulation. This note captures an important transitional period in Chinese monetary history and serves as both an educational artifact and a tangible investment piece for serious banknote collectors worldwide.
