The signature is part of the identity

A note is placed by its issue series, the Governor whose signature it carries, and the prefix and serial. Two notes of the same denomination and design can belong to quite different issues, and the signature is usually the fastest way to tell.

Condition on paper is mostly about folds

A note that has never been folded sits in a different class from one that has. Look at the corners, the centre fold line and whether the paper still has its original snap - all three show in a photograph.
