🔍 Dramatic grease-filled die error
⭐ Highly Collectible
🛡️ Fine condition nickel-brass
✨ Sharp reverse, blank obverse
A Rare mint error 5 Rupees of the Republic of India, struck through grease with a filled obverse die. The Lion Capital side has come out as a soft, formless raised surface with only ghosts of the legends, while the reverse of the very same coin is crisply struck, which rules out ordinary circulation wear.
- Error: struck through grease (filled die) across the whole obverse, with the Lion Capital reduced to a soft blob and the legends barely traceable.
- Secondary fault: the obverse rim is weak and incomplete from about 9 to 12 o’clock, caused by the same poor metal flow.
- Denomination: 5 Rupees, rupee-symbol definitive series.
- Year: 2012, with the date sharp on the reverse.
- Mint: Noida, shown by the single dot below the date.
- Metal: nickel-brass; measured diameter about 24.2 mm.
- Condition: Fine overall, with even toning and some dark staining on the reverse.

Add a fascinating major mint error to your collection with this Republic of India 5 Rupees coin, issued in 2012 from the Noida Mint. Crafted in durable nickel-brass, this piece showcases a dramatic “struck through grease” or filled die error on the obverse. Instead of crisp details, the iconic Lion Capital and surrounding legends appear as a soft, formless raised surface due to grease trapped in the minting die, while the reverse remains astonishingly sharp. This stark contrast definitively rules out ordinary wear. Error coins offer a captivating window into the mechanical realities of mass coin production, making dramatic filled-die anomalies highly sought after by numismatists specializing in mint mishaps. Graded in Fine condition with heavy signs of circulation and natural toning, this authentic specimen provides an affordable entry point into advanced error collecting. You will receive the exact coin photographed.
