Step back into the era of the Indian Princely States with this exceptional 2 Paisa copper coin, issued by the progressive Baroda State during the reign of Maharaja Sayaji Rao III Gaekwad. Struck in Samvat 1947 (corresponding to 1890 AD), this remarkable piece measures approximately 29 mm and is preserved in an impressive Extremely Fine condition. The obverse displays the Devanagari legend "Samvat / Don Paise" encased in a beaded circle with a graceful leafy vine wreath, while the reverse features the iconic state sword beneath "Sarkar," framed by the ruler's full titles. Maharaja Sayaji Rao III is renowned for modernizing Baroda, making currency from his reign deeply sought after by numismatists focusing on colonial and princely Indian history. Collectors will appreciate the warm, natural brown patina and the sharp, legible details on both sides, which are increasingly difficult to find preserved to this standard. This authentic piece of South Asian heritage offers a tangible connection to the 19th-century subcontinent, making it a standout addition to any world coin or princely states collection.
