The reverse carries the Lion Capital of Ashoka with “भारत” and “INDIA” flanking the emblem and the motto “सत्यमेव जयते” below, while the face side shows the large numeral 5 with “रुपये” above, “RUPEES” beneath and the date 1997 at the foot, set within a floral spray design.
