San Marino, 500 Lire, 1993, “Adveniat Regnum Viri”, KM #301, Circulated Condition.
Commemorative issue: Adveniat Regnum Viri
“Adveniat Regnum Viri” is a Latin phrase that translates to “May the Kingdom of Man come.” It is a variation of the more common religious phrase “Adveniat Regnum Tuum” (“Thy Kingdom Come”). The addition of “Viri” (man) changes the meaning from a divine kingdom to a human one.
• “Adveniat”: May come, let it come, may it arrive
• “Regnum”: Kingdom, reign
• “Viri”: Of man, of mankind
Because the original phrase is a well-known part of the Lord’s Prayer, its more common translation is “Thy Kingdom Come”. The user’s version, however, substitutes “Viri” for “Tuum,” which would change the religious intent to a more secular or human-centric one.
