Description

A Republic of India 5 Rupees of 2015 taken from a mint error lot, carrying die cracks across the obverse. Thin raised lines run in from the rim and wander over the field, the longest passing right under the Lion Capital and out through the letters of INDIA.

  • Main fault: raised die cracks on the obverse, one crossing the full width of the face from about 9 o'clock to 4 o'clock.
  • Two shorter cracks run from the upper-left rim towards the capital and down beneath भारत.
  • Denomination 5 Rupees, dated 2015, with the rupee symbol and lotus sprays on the reverse.
  • No mint mark below the date, indicating the Calcutta mint.
  • Grey base metal, measured at about 24.3 mm across.
  • Condition Fine: evenly circulated, legend still crisp, central emblem softened by wear.
  • Faces are correctly aligned and the rim is complete, so no rotation or off-centre strike.

Add a fascinating anomaly to your modern numismatic collection with this Republic of India 5 Rupees coin, minted in Kolkata in 2015. Struck in standard base metal measuring approximately 24.3 mm, this circulated piece carries a captivating error rather than the standard pristine finish. Graded in Fine condition, it displays the honest wear of a coin that spent time in everyday commerce, featuring a softened central Lion Capital emblem while keeping its peripheral legends remarkably crisp. Issued by the Reserve Bank of India, this piece deviated from standard production lines due to a stressed minting die. Error collectors actively seek out these dramatic physical imperfections because they offer a tangible glimpse into the high-speed mechanical realities of mass coin production. Instead of a routine circulating currency, you acquire a unique conversation starter showcasing genuine mint mishaps, complete with a fully formed rim and correct face alignment. You will receive the exact coin shown in the product photographs.
