Description

A Republic India 2 Rupees of 2013 that left the mint with a clear off-centre strike, the fault the seller describes as a shifting error. The dies met the blank away from its centre, so the design is pushed to one side on both faces and a crescent of bare metal is left opposite.

  • Error: off-centre strike of roughly 10-15 per cent, the design shifted high and left on the Lion Capital face and to the right on the value face.
  • The raised border runs inside the coin edge across the blank crescent and is flattened away on the opposite side.
  • Secondary weakness in the Lion Capital and legends where metal failed to fill the die.
  • Denomination: 2 Rupees, dated 2013.
  • Mint: Hyderabad, shown by the star below the date.
  • Metal: ferritic stainless steel; diameter about 26.1 mm.
  • Condition: Fine, circulated with contact marks and light scratches.

Add a fascinating mint-floor anomaly to your modern Republic of India collection with this unique 2013 Two Rupees coin. Struck at the esteemed Hyderabad Mint—identifiable by the distinctive star symbol below the date—this ferritic stainless steel specimen completely bypassed standard quality control. During the striking process, the coin blank shifted noticeably, resulting in a striking 10-15 percent off-centre alignment accompanied by a slight rotation error.

Numismatically, mint errors offer a captivating glimpse into the mechanical complexities of mass coin production. On this piece, the die misaligned with the planchet, leaving a distinct crescent of bare, unstruck metal on one side while pushing the iconic Lion Capital and numerical denomination toward the rim. Advanced and error-variety collectors heavily pursue these mechanical mishaps because no two strike errors are identical. Graded in Fine condition, the coin bears the honest contact marks and circulation wear expected of a heavy-used piece that somehow escaped into everyday commerce. It is a tangible conversation starter that highlights the occasional imperfections behind state-of-the-art currency manufacturing.
