This Uganda 1000 Shillings coin, struck in 2002, is a stunning non-circulating commemorative issue by the Bank of Uganda, celebrated for its vivid depiction of an overhead kick—a tribute to football's most dramatic move. Crafted in .999 fine silver, the coin weighs 24.83 grams and measures 38.60mm in diameter, showcasing exceptional craftsmanship through its milled technique and precise coin alignment (↑↓). As part of Uganda's modern Republic-era coinage (since 1962), this piece reflects the nation's growing engagement with global numismatic themes, particularly sports-related commemoratives that gained popularity in the early 2000s. Silver coins with such dynamic athletic imagery are relatively scarce, making this a standout piece for themed collections. For collectors, this coin holds significant appeal due to its rarity, high silver purity, and unique sporting motif—an intersection of numismatics and football history rarely found in African coinage. Its substantial size and weight add to its tactile and visual appeal, while its limited mintage as a non-circulating commemorative enhances long-term collectible value. Whether you're building a themed sports coin collection or seeking rare silver strikes from Uganda, this piece offers both aesthetic and historical significance, making it a worthy addition to any serious collection.
